Everyone has trouble finding the perfect way to set up their first drum set. You can take the following steps to make it a little easier
.Make sure you have all the necessary pieces for your drum set. This includes a drum key.

.Find a good area to set up your drum set.
.Put your bass drum on the floor vertically so that the brand name is facing away from where you want to sit.
.Get the two legs that attach into the bass drum and slip them into the holes and tighten their hold by turning the knobs, be sure that the bass drum itself is a little above the ground so that the legs take most of the weight.
Get your throne and use the lever under the seat to adjust the height. This should be comfortable for you. Most drummers play with their knees bent at approximately a 90 degree angle. Be sure that you are at an angle where you are most comfortable with your foot on the bass drum pedal.
.Find the snare stand and place the snare drum onto the stand.
.Adjust the height so that it is at a comfortable height for you to hit without hitting your knees. This is usually a little higher then your legs.
.Take both the Toms and attach them onto the Bass Drum similarly to how you attached the legs to the Bass Drum. The way the Toms attach will differ between drum brands, make sure to check the Factory set-up guide.
.Get the floor Tom and attach all 3 of its legs just like you did for the Bass Drum.
.Make the height of the Floor Tom equal or close to the Snare.
.Put the bottom Hihat cymbal onto the top of the Hihat stand (this is the on with the pedal). This cymbal just sits there, it does not screw into anything.
.Unscrew the bottom nut on the Hihat clutch (this is what holds the top Hihat cymbal to the Hihat stand) Take the top Hihat cymbal and place it between the 2 felts inside the Hihat Clutch. Screw the nut back on the bottom and put the Hihat clutch onto the Hihat stand.
.Take the Ride Cymbal and slip in onto one of the cymbal stands. Tighten the knob and adjust the height of the cymbal so its comfortable.
.Repeat the previous step for the remainder of your cymbals.
